University of the South

In 2022, Dr. Tiffany Momon will teach a course titled Public History in Southern Appalachia that will explore the history of several African American communities in Tennessee’s Southern Appalachian region, including Sewanee, Decherd, Winchester, Cowan and Beersheba Springs. Through meetings with community partners, students will use public history fieldwork methods to create public history deliverables as requested by community members. Additionally, this course will incorporate boots on the ground public history to travel to communities, to meet with community members in community spaces, and to bring community members to campus.
